| Jacob (of 'Jacob's Story') |
Perhaps
the most poignant artwork are those from Jacob (of
'Jacob's
Story'), who died
in 2002, just three years short of finishing a
20-year sentence.
Susan writes:
"He taught us about his homeland by drawing and writing
about animals, birds and village life."
Some of the words written below are from Jacob himself.

Animal Studies
Insects of the Victoria Falls
"Charaves Hohemani" Butterfly. |
 |
Elephants and Antelopes at a Watering Hole |
 |
Savutes Lions
Jacob; "Are renowned for their hunting abilities and regularly
kill such large prey as adult giraffe, even though
the latter are capable of putting up a strenuous
defence. Their kick can be lethal and several cases
are on record of
lions being killed in the attempt." |
 |
Meercats
Webmaster: Simply one of my favourites! Jacob captured these
wonderful animals in a classic pose. |
 |
White-Crowned Plover
Jacob; "Quite common on the Zambezi sand beaches. Zambezi
is the river which flows in Victoria Falls" |
 |
Small Green African Squirrel
Jacob explains the special points;
Jacob; "One is the bright green colour
of its tail. If the colour of its coat is protective,
matching the green foliage around, it cannot rely on
this when the sharp-eyed African Crested Eagle is
anywhere around." |
 |
The Father of Stinks
Jacob; "The black-and-white striped Zorilla is only fifteen inches
(38cm) long but is one of the most fearless animals on the continent
of Africa.
"It can give out a stench so revolting that no wild beast can
approach it!" |
 |
Seasonal Cards
Easter
Jacob would often create his own. This could be because of
the shortage of such items, but his creativity always
shone through. |
 |
| Seasonal Greetings! |
 |
The Mosaic Age
Would appear to depict Moses holding one of the tablets. |
 |
| Seasons Greetings |
 |
"Gule" Flowers
Jacob; "This flower mainly looks beautiful in Summertime
... they call it royal flower..." |
 |
Jacob's Anger
Webmaster: I have provisionally named this as such, because it seems
to fit into what was described in Jacob's Story,
where he experienced great rage at his imprisonment.
Note the white dove that flies across, seemingly giving the impetus
towards peace. |
